HOA Dos and Don’ts for Kitchen Remodeling

Living in a HOA community binds you to certain rules and regulations, especially when it comes to home renovations. Typically, HOA approval is required for exterior remodels. But depending on the scope of the remodel, you may need to request HOA approval for interior remodeling projects like kitchen remodels.

In today’s post, The Kitchen Store — an established provider of custom kitchen cabinets — lists a few dos and don’ts to remember if you plan on remodeling your kitchen.

Dos

  • Review the CC&Rs. Have a look at your CC&Rs (covenants, conditions and restrictions) as these documents have all the requirements needed for a kitchen remodel. Make sure you’re prepared so that your application for an HOA approval can go more smoothly.
  • Apply for the required permits. Depending on how much work will be done, a custom kitchen remodeling project may require you to apply for permits from your city or municipality. This is likely mentioned in your CC&Rs. But to be sure, you can personally ask your HOA and contractor.

Don’ts

  • Neglect to inform your neighbors. Make sure your neighbors are aware of the remodel so that they can make their own plans or preparations. Renovations can be messy and noisy, so your remodel may cause some inconvenience to them.
  • Forget to notify the HOA upon your project’s completion. Let your HOA know when your renovation is complete. If there are any recorded liens placed on your home for the renovation, make sure to clear these as well.

The Kitchen Store offers a wide array of products and kitchen remodeling services. Whether you need a cabinet expert or a kitchen remodeler, our team can help with your project and deliver excellent results.
