How to Create the Ultimate Cozy Kitchen

When LA home interior designs tend to gravitate toward a streamlined and modern look — curves, fewer furnitures, negative spaces — a cozy kitchen can be a nice, warm addition. In today’s post, your local kitchen remodeling expert The Kitchen Store shares some of the things that you can change to make your kitchen look warm and cozy.

Warm Lighting and Colors

One of the pitfalls of having a monochromatic or neutral color palette is it’s so easy to make it look cold and sterile. A warm color palette with lighting to match can give your kitchen a cozy feel while requiring only minimal changes.

Install Rugs

Rugs are a great way to add color without doing any remodeling work, and can be changed as often as you want. Place them under bar stools, at the center of your work triangle, under the dining table, or any bare spot on the kitchen floor. Keep a few rugs and put them on rotation every few weeks to maintain visual interest.

Countertops Made of Natural Materials

Countertops can be made from a wide variety of materials, both synthetic and natural. Give your kitchen a cozy look by choosing natural materials like quartz or soapstone. A butcher block countertop made of birch, teak or hard maple is also a great choice. It’s important to note that natural materials tend to have higher maintenance requirements, so make sure to keep it in mind when picking your countertop material.

Rustic Kitchen Furniture

Whether repurposed or custom-built, rustic furniture adds charm and character to a kitchen. Antique stores are a great resource for this purpose — weathered furniture can be refinished and coated to give it an old-but-not-damaged look. If you need furniture with specific dimensions, custom furniture can be built and even artificially weathered to achieve the same look.

Window Treatments

Window treatments such as blinds, curtains and shutters can add an extra layer of coziness to your kitchen, while softening direct sunlight and maintaining privacy. Colored window treatments can also complement your kitchen colors, so make sure not to overlook it when planning your kitchen color palette.
