Modern Kitchen: Unconventional Geometric Design Ideas

In traditional kitchen remodeling, the design to follow is straightforward and is often set in stone, with the kitchen triangle often takes the form of a literal triangle floor plan. In modern homes, however, uncommon geometric designs are the style rules to follow.

As experts in kitchen remodeling services, The Kitchen Store shares some of our favorite unconventional geometric designs you can try on your next kitchen remodel.

The L-Shaped Kitchen Design

This is one of the more common of the so-called unconventional geometric designs and from afar, it might seem lacking. The truth is, the kitchen triangle is still there; it just so happens that one part is extended. This stretched part of the triangle can either be the sink or stove area with the refrigerator in the corner.

This layout is ideal for smaller modern kitchens that don’t have enough floor space to establish the often wide kitchen work triangle. While unconventional, it’s rather simple to apply and only requires smart use of space and proper placement of the kitchen essentials.

Cabinet Focal Points

In traditional kitchens, the main focal point is the actual work triangle, which includes the stove, fridge and sink. In some modern homes, the focus is on the cabinets instead. Because of the change of focal point, the main work areas are often restricted to a smaller space, often utilizing the main kitchen island. The space where the stove used to be can be converted into a wall-spanning cabinet.

As with any modern room, the cabinets must respect the architectural style it fits in. This can be done with a quick kitchen cabinet.

Retro Accents

The geometrical design that best characterizes retro accents and kitchen decor are circular with many curves. This is an unconventional design for kitchens that often has borders due to the strict use of squares and rectangles in the room.

The main benefit of switching to retro accents and tables is that it frees up space on clutter-prone areas of your house. Round designs take up less space, which means a modern kitchen with this geometric design will look more spacious and easier to access.
