Planning a Galley Kitchen Layout

The galley kitchen layout is widely considered by many homeowners as the most efficient layout for cooking and meal preparations. It works well with all kitchen styles and is characterized by an optimized space with an emphasis on storage and an obstruction-free working area.

The Kitchen Store, your local kitchen remodeling expert, shares some tips to keep in mind when planning this layout:

Keep Tall Cabinets on One Wall

It’s best to put all of the tall cabinets on one wall for efficiency and a seamless layout. Go for a wall length of at least 12 feet so that the cooktop and sink are sufficiently far away from one another. This arrangement gives you sufficient space for the sink and cabinets and drawers below the range.

What you’ll be putting in these tall cabinets depends on you. We recommend putting the plates and the sundry storage boxes here, as well as important kitchenware you want within reach while cooking. At The Kitchen Store, we offer expert kitchen cabinet installation that breathes new life into your old cabinets.

Maximize the Closed Off Kitchen Wall

Most galley layouts have one kitchen wall closed off. While many homeowners leave this part bare, there are many ways to utilize this free wall space. You can add an open wall shelf to place decor or other kitchen necessities, hang a painting, or even rework the entire section into a chalkboard wall.

Kitchen Galleys and Islands

Not all kitchen galleys are closed off. Some have a more open layout that’s perfect for an island. This addition should ideally sit parallel to the longer run of units, such as the sink or range. How you use this island is up to you, but we recommend setting it up as an extra storage area or a more open prep area where you can present your cooking.

At The Kitchen Store, we offer complete kitchen remodeling services. Let us help you properly set up your galley kitchen. Call us today at (310) 736-1077 to learn more about our services. We are a kitchen remodeling expert in Los Angeles, CA, and other parts of California.
