What Can Stain Your Quartz Countertops?

Quartz is known for its extreme durability and attractiveness. Whether you prefer a contemporary or traditional kitchen design, this material will work great. It doesn’t stain as easily as other countertop materials like granite and marble. However, it’s completely stain-proof. Certain things can leave unsightly marks on this material.

Here are things that can stain your quartz kitchen countertops.

Paint Thinner

Synthetic pigments or paint are added to the slabs of quartz during manufacturing. Just think about what could happen when paint thinner touches your quartz countertops. Also, paint thinner is caustic, meaning it can harm the resins that bond the crushed stone pieces that makeup 90 percent of quartz slabs.

Wine

A spilled glass of wine can leave stains on your quartz countertops if you leave it to dry. You can use a special cleaner to prevent permanent stains. However, be mindful of cooking wine with balsamic vinegar because its higher acidity can react with the resin. Wipe wine spills immediately to avoid staining.

Household Cleaners

Many kitchen remodeling designers don’t recommend using common household cleaners on quartz counters because of their abrasive and solvent contents. The solvent can damage the quartz pigments while abrasive chemicals may scratch the resins.

Extremely Hot Items

Constantly placing hot pans, pots and baking sheets directly on your quartz counters can result in discoloration. It’s the same with placing straightening or curling irons on your bathroom counters. You can avoid this problem by using trivets and hot pads.

Tea and Coffee

Natural dark pigments in tea and coffee can leave stains on quartz countertops. Like wine, you shouldn’t leave tea and coffee spills to dry. Just make sure that you wipe spills as soon as possible to prevent stains.
